TICA Cattery: OhMy CFA Cattery: My Oh My
ABYSSINIANS
Abyssinians are among the oldest of breeds, and have remained
basically the same as they began. They are rumored to have been the
sacred cat of Egypt. They were first recognized as a breed in England,
and often nicknamed Bunny Cats because of the 3 to 4 layers of ticking
on each hair. This unique pattern and coloring is similar to that of the
rabbit, and deer. The Ruddy is orange with black ticking. The Red
(not a true red) is now divided into two shades in TICA. The original
light orange with cinnamon ticking is the Cinnamon. The second has been
around for years, but only recognized in the past decade....The second
shade: first detected through CH OhMy Red Radio Flyer...is now registered
in TICA as Chocolate, an orange undercoat with distinctly chocolate ticking.
OhMy is proud to have played a role in the recognition of our favorite Abyssinian color.
See www.leotie.com. CFA continues to register both shades as Red.
They also are registered as Blue, Fawn, for Championship, and the New Colors of
Silver, which is a white undercoat with one of the four standard colors
in their ticking. There are no crosses. They are the original
Traditional Tabby. Personalities are affectionate to a fault on their
own terms. They know they come from royalty and show it in their lionine
grace, and their regal stance. Look into the eyes of one, and you
recognize the ruler of the universe. When yours wants to wrap it's arms
around your neck and kiss your neck chin and cheeks, give up and take it
while you have the chance. If you try to schedule the quality time
together, you may just get a haughty stare.
Social cats, they will greet your guests at the door and
demand their full attention while they are there. Don't try to hold one
if it wants down, it can turn 360 degrees inside it's skin, before you
can blink.
